WHAT IS KAMBO?

Kambo is a powerful non toxic secretion derived from the Phyllomedusa Bicolor, or Giant Monkey Tree Frog, native to the Amazon rainforest. It has been used for centuries by indigenous tribes for its potent healing and purifying properties, serving as a tool for physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation.

The tribes of the Amazon, including the Matsés, Yawanawá, and Huni Kuin, revere Kambo as a sacred medicine. Traditionally, it has been used to:

Cleanse the body of toxins.

Strengthen the immune system.

Sharpen the senses for hunting.

Remove “panema,” a term for negative energy, bad luck, or lethargy.

Kambo is often referred to as a holistic remedy, working on multiple levels of the human experience. When applied in a ceremonial setting, it creates an opportunity for deep detoxification, release of emotional blockages, and spiritual realignment.

THE LEGEND OF KAMPU

Kaxinawá legend states that one day many people in their tribe became very ill and their Pajé (Medicine Man) had done everything possible to cure them.

Their medicine man Kampu, decided he would have a walk in the Jungle and sat in isolation, drinking Ayahuasca - the master teacher plant.

Kampu was visited by a spirit and he experienced visions and teachings.

These teachings involved being shown a particular frog- the Monkey tree frog. He was shown how to call the frog using the distinctive ‘song’, and then how to collect the secretion and safely apply it to the body.

Kampu returned to the village with his newfound knowledge and healed the tribe with this new and potent Kambo medicine.

The name Kambo is to honour this incredible shaman Kampu and it’s through the use of Kambo that his spirit lives on.

In modern times several Amazonian tribes (including the Kaxinawá, Yawanawa and the Matses) still use Kambo as their main medicine and these tribes are vital hunters and have a healthy community.

Like Kampu, more and more of us are learning to trust in the Divine healing of nature.

When we work with Kambo we choose to interact with the Divine force directly, bypassing our minds and consequently we can experience deep healing.

A SACRED TRADITION

Kambo is applied through small, superficial burns on the skin, allowing the secretion to enter the lymphatic system. Once introduced, it triggers a series of physical and energetic responses designed to cleanse and align the body. This unique medicine works quickly and with purpose, scanning the body for areas in need of healing and renewal.

Kambo’s significance extends beyond its physical effects. It is viewed as a gift from nature, carrying with it the wisdom and traditions of the Amazonian tribes. Its use in rituals symbolises a deep respect for the interconnectedness of humans, nature, and the divine.
